Percent of the power consumed by municipal buildings generated by zero emission energy sources

Expanding Clean Energy
Clean energy from the Town's rooftop solar panels alongside Duke Energy's zero-emission power—which is driven primarily by nuclear energy—now supplies nearly 60% of the electricity used in municipal buildings.
A new 75 kW solar array at the Drakeford Library Complex went live in September 2025, boosting our total clean power generation. The Town also has solar panels on Fire Station 1 and the Farmers Market pavilion.
The Road to 2030
We are making steady progress toward the Town's goal to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 80% by 2030.
Reaching this milestone will require fully transitioning all municipal facilities to 100% zero-emission energy.
Next Steps
New Town Solar Projects
We are developing plans to add solar to the new Town Hall rebuild at Century Center and at Fire Station 2.
