Award up to $30,000 in Green Neighborhood Grants

Updates

The Green Neighborhoods Grant Program seeks to benefit Carrboro’s most climate vulnerable residents by bringing neighbors and community-based organizations together to pursue projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve local climate resilience, and advance the Town of Carrboro Climate Action Plan. So far, Carrboro has awarded grants to 33 projects over four funding cycles. The FY25-26 Green Neighborhoods Grants represented a larger and more diverse pool of applicants than in the first three years of funding due to increased outreach to underserved communities. This year, six projects were funded to build neighborhood capacity to engage in climate action. The FY25-26 projects include distributing backpacks filled with hot weather safety supplies to unhoused community members, conducting native tree planting at McDougle Elementary School, replacing non-native plants with native landscaping in Roberson Place neighborhood, repairing the fence at Baldwin Park Community Garden, installing cisterns to address flooding on Pleasant Drive, and expanding compost drop-off stations in two neighborhoods.

Next Steps

Climate Action staff will be meeting with the awarded grant project teams. The timeline for the next round of grant funding will be shared on the Town's website.
